The UMSummer Institute (SI) invites high school students (entering their sophomore, junior and senior year starting the fall of 2020) to UM for an intensive, hands-on transformational learning opportunity with our faculty in a live-in shared two week experience. They will engage in the classroom during the day and in meaningful social activities in the evenings and during the weekend. Students will be exposed to all aspects of life as a UM student. Students can earn three college credits and have a choice from six course listings. The courses were chosen by UM’s Communities of Excellence . Students will choose one course to participate in for the two week duration. For more information, please contact Dr. Grace Gardner, Director of UMSummer at 406-243-5658 or email@example.com .
The 2020 Summer Schwanke Honors Institute
Students join a two-week summer honors program and explore university life and academics at the University of Montana’s Davidson Honors College. Participants learn from honors faculty in award-winning UM programs, build connections with other motivated students, and explore honors education at UM, including experiential learning and small class sizes.
Upon successful completion of the program, students earn three University of Montana credits!
The 2020 Summer Schwanke Honors Institute will focus on the environment and sustainability through an immersive, classroom and field-based program. Students choose one of two options for coursework:
- HONR 191 – Creative Writing in the Environment
- HONR 191 – Climate Science, Society, and Solutions
This year’s program will take place on the University of Montana campus in Missoula from June 14 - June 27, 2020.
Additional features of the program include:
- On-campus housing in a University residence hall with fellow pre-college students and university student teaching assistants;
- Engaging morning class sessions and afternoons spent explore Missoula and the surrounding area on exciting field trips; and,
- A 3-day excursion to Glacier National Park and the Blackfeet Reservation for an immersive study of the environment and sustainability.
The application deadline is April 15, 2020. The program is limited to 40 students, and because we accept students on a rolling basis, we encourage early applications. We have a number of scholarships available and encourage students to consider our March 15th priority scholarship application deadline.
The applications for admission and scholarships can be found on our website: SCHWANKE HONORS INSTITUTE.
