Big Sky High School opened it’s doors in August 1980 and held a Dedication Ceremony for the school on May 7, 1981. By then Big Sky was in Full operation with it’s Performing Arts and Sports programs. Since that first year of operation, the Big Sky High School Theatre Department has produced over 100 full length productions. Classes offered through the theatre department include Theatre I - Introduction to Theatre, Theatre II, Theatre III, Theatre IV, Technical Theatre, and Film Studies & Film Making, Dance for Theatre and Educational Leadership and Theatre Advocacy, along with a full IB Theatre program. Students can also earn duel credit through several of the theatre classes offered through the Big Sky High School Theatre department.Fall semester students have the opportunity to register for the IB Theatre Program at Big Sky High School.Over the years, productions have included such plays as Scapino, Marty, The Miracle Worker, Children of a Lesser God, Noises Off, Bye,Bye Birdie, The Foreigner, One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, A Piece of My Heart, MASH, To Kill a Mockingbird, Brighton Beach Memories, Once Upon a Time in New Jersey, Moon Over Buffalo, Boys Next Door, Zombie Prom, Lend Me A Tenor, Good Boys & True, Lost in Yonkers, Sweeny Todd, Boeing Boeing, Mice and Men, Loot, Addams Family Musical, Diary of Anne Frank, Ordinary People and All Shook Up.Other productions include our annual Fall Cabaret Show and Spring Dance Concert. Big Sky High Schools Theatre Department and Way Off Broadway Theatre Company continues to grow with the development of our educational trips to New York and The International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska, Day Trips to Spokane to see professional productions such as Miss Siagon, Student written/directed performances, and film productions.
