"Ed-Ventures"

  • Ed-Ventures

One benefit of the Health Science Academy is the opportunity to participate in a smaller learning community.  We take advantage of the smaller group size and offer unique opportunities, including taking students off campus on "Ed-Ventures."

Freshman and Sophomore HSA students can count on yearly Ed-Ventures. Below are some of the adventures they have taken:
    • The University of Montana
    • Community Hospital
    • St. Patrick Hospital
    • Missoula College
    • Avalanche awareness and snowshoeing trip at Lolo Pass
    • Outdoor experiences in Pattee Canyon and other nearby locations

Every 1-2 years, students also take longer trips. Listed below are examples of some of these types of Ed-Ventures:
    • Pacific Science Center and Gates Foundation Discovery Center in Seattle, Washington
    • University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City
    • Salish Kootenai College
    • Helena Capital Tour
    • Flathead Lake Biological Station

Exploring heart anatomy during a tour at St. Patrick Hospital     Examining equipment for heart catheterization

Hunting for an avalanche beacon during avalanche training at Lolo Pass      Visiting the helicopter landing pad atop St. Patrick Hospital

Practicing intubation on a mannequin head at Community Medical Center      Labor and delivery nurses at Community Medical Center offer practice with a childbirth mannequin

    Amazing Race

Other opportunities to celebrate our smaller learning community and build relationships among students include the year end "Amazing Races" for both freshmen and sophomores.  During the Amazing Race, teams of 4 students navigate puzzles and challenges set in various locations around the school.   Teams complete the challenge and get signed off before proceeding on to the next site.  Winning teams are announced at the year end Academy Awards ceremony.
