"Who is more to be pitied, a writer bound and gagged by policemen or one living in perfect freedom who has nothing more to say?"   - Kurt Vonnegut

I received my Bachelors of Art in English from St. Mary's College of Maryland, a small liberal arts honors college nestled on a tributary to the Chesapeake River in beautiful southern Maryland. I journeyed to the West after falling in love with the Rocky Mountains and haven't left since. I graduated from the University of Montana's teacher preparation program as well as earned my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction.

I became an English teacher because I see the power in both written and spoken language, and know that we can learn a lot about ourselves, our experiences, and our society through literature, film, and discussion. In addition, I see great potential in young people and feel it is our responsibility to help them become compassionate and responsible human beings. I believe education should foster creativity and individualism, and strongly encourage students to take responsibility and control of their own education. Living in this competitive and global economy, it is necessary for all students to develop strong communication skills, both written and spoken, alongside the pleasures of exploring texts, contemporary issues, and individual interests. My classroom will joyfully tackle all of those tasks.
