Health Enhancement Graduation Requirements

Health Enhancement requirements: 1 Semester of Health/3 semesters of PE electives
Available Health Enhancement Semester Options
- Health Required Course/9th grade/.5 semester: In the classroom, age-appropriate health concepts are learned in select health content areas (such as family life, relationships, sexual education, substance abuse ,mental and emotional health, and nutrition). Students learn and practice communication and decision-making skills to enhance their health.
PE Electives
- Focus on Fitness/NO prerequisites/9th -12th grade/ .5 sem: This course places an emphasis on continuing and improving aerobic development, enjoying movement and valuing physical activity and fitness in a student’s life. Examples include, but are not limited to: yoga, pilates, aerobic activities, crossfit, spinning, circuits, core, high intensity interval training, flexibility, and strength training.
- Recreational Games/ NO prerequisites/9th-12th grade/.5 sem: This course places an emphasis on continuing and improving aerobic development, enjoying movement and valuing physical activity and fitness in a student’s life. Examples include, but are not limited to: Ultimate frisbee, Folf, Bowling, Badminton, Pickleball, Horseshoes,Geocaching, Archery,Climbing Wall, Pickleball, Tennis, Badminton
- TEAM SPORTS CHALLENGE/No Prerequisite/Grades 9-12/.5 per semester:This course focuses on traditional team sports. Examples include, but are not limited to: basketball, flag football, soccer, lacrosse, touch rugby, volleyball, spike ball, ultimate frisbee, softball and fitness activities.
- Outdoor Adventures/No Prerequisite/Grades 9-12/.5 per semester: This course focuses on activities that promote maintaining an active lifestyle. Examples include, but are not limited to: Rock climbing, Skiing, Snowshoeing , Cross-country skiing, Hiking, Golf, Folf, Biking, CPR / First Aid, Fishing, Avalanche Safety, Climbing
- Beginning Weight Training/Grades 9-12/.50 per semester: Students learn correct lifting techniques as well as basic training principles and programs. This is a rigorous course in which students should be able to train at a higher intensity to improve their fitness and performance levels. Activities include the use of free weights for basic lifts such as bench press, power clean, front/back squat, deadlift, etc., resistance bands for various strength training exercises and a variety of warm-up, speed/agility and conditioning drills. Course activities emphasize all components of physical fitness.
- Empower Weight Training/Grades 9-12/.50 per semester:This course is for women only. They will learn correct lifting techniques as well as basic training principles and programs. This is a rigorous course in which students should be able to train at a higher intensity to improve their fitness and performance levels. Activities include the use of free weights for basic lifts such as bench press, power clean, front/back squat, deadlift, etc., resistance bands for various strength training exercises and a variety of warm-up, speed/agility and conditioning drills. Course activities emphasize all components of physical fitness.
Grades 10-12:
- Advanced Weight Training/ Grades 10-12/.50 per semester
- Prerequisite Beginning Weight Training
- This course allows students to experience and further develop lifting programs specific to their individual needs. They should be able to train at a higher intensity to improve their fitness and performance levels. Proper lifting technique is still a major focus. Students will work to improve their fitness levels in the five health-related fitness components.
- This class does not take the place of PE electives.
- Zero Period Advanced Weight Training/Grades 10-12/.50 per semester
- Prerequisite Beginning Weight Training
- This course allows students to experience and further develop lifting programs specific to their individual needs. They should be able to train at a higher intensity to improve their fitness and performance levels. Proper lifting technique is still a major focus. Students will work to improve their fitness levels in the five health-related fitness components. Class is offered Monday - Friday from 6:50- 7:35 am.
- This class does not take the place of PE electives.
- Lifetime Activities/Grades 11-12/.50 per semester
- This course focuses on continuing and improving aerobic development, enjoying movement and valuing physical activity and fitness in a student’s life. Course activities emphasize all components of physical fitness and the pursuit of an active lifestyle. Activities include, but not limited to, team, racquet, and active lifestyle activities. Explore the community for additional ways to maintain an active lifestyle.
