Chaucer is honored to have the opportunity to lead the Hellgate Girls Soccer program after serving as an assistant on the boys’ team for six seasons. Chaucer is a Missoula native, Hellgate alum and current Hellgate Spanish teacher. He grew up playing soccer in Missoula as a goalkeeper, and developed his love for the game from an early age. After finishing high school, he attended Seattle University, where he played club soccer and worked for Seattle Sounders FC as part of their matchday staff. He coached Sounders summer camps after graduating, where he began his interest in coaching.

After finishing school in Seattle, Chaucer worked as an English teacher in Southern Spain for two years, where his development as a coach took off. He was an assistant coach for a semi-pro team in his first year living in Jaén, and then as an assistant for a U10 team his second year in Granada, where he completed his UEFA B coaching license through the Spanish Federation.

After leaving Spain and returning to Missoula, Chaucer obtained his Master’s degree in Education and his teaching license from UM, and coached for Strikers FC. Then, after some waiting due to pandemic restrictions, he was awarded a Fulbright grant to teach English in São José do Rio Preto, Brazil. He spent nine months in Brazil teaching at a public university, playing soccer and futsal for the university team, and coaching youth soccer for a local club.

After returning from Brazil, Chaucer continued as an assistant coach with Hellgate boys’ soccer, a head coach for Strikers FC and has been a coach with Montana ODP for the past two seasons. He is also part of the West Region ODP staff. He will be completing his United States B License this fall.

He is excited and humbled for the opportunity to continue the great work done by Natalie and past Hellgate coaches. He knows it is a privilege to lead a program at the school that he attended and that gets to play at the best soccer fields in the state up the Rattlesnake.
