• Project: Book Vending Machine

  • At the CS Porter Library, we are working hard to improve literacy with our students. We have a REALLY great idea for a book vending machine for our school, which will positively impact all of our 625 students. The kids will be able to "purchase" the books using their Cougar Coupons, which are tickets they earn for positive behavior. They will be able to get a brand-new book without spending any real money to get it. This will be a great way to encourage positive behavior for our students and to get excellent books into their hands.

We already have some money set aside from our Scholastic Book Fair profits to buy books for our machine, and Amanda Curtis, the president of the Montana Federation of Public Employees, bought us some books as well. We still need the machine, however, which is expensive (about $6000). We are partnering with area restaurants to raise money, as well as searching for grants and businesses to support our idea.
