Hello! My name is Kelly McGuire. I'm the school social worker and behavior interventionist at Washington Middle School.  I've been working in the social services field for 19 years, mostly in public health and the justice system. This is my first year at Washington and I am super excited to shift into school social work!

What I Do:

I work with students who teachers flag as needing extra support at school in order to succeed.

• I build a positive and supportive relationship with each student and determine how to support their unique social emotional needs to help them thrive at school.
• I support students in developing five core social emotional competencies: self-awareness, self-regulation, social awareness, interpersonal skills, and responsible decision-making.
• I coordinate services with other school staff who may be providing interventions (such as the school counselors, psychologist, academic interventionist, CSCT therapist, special education teachers, family resource center, or the SLP program).
• I'm also in touch with students' families to hear about their concerns and provide information about community resources.

Schedule:

You can find me at Washington every day that school is in session, but my schedule varies between meeting with students or staff, and I am often in the building but out of my office. The best way to reach me is via email. Please feel free to contact me!
