Mrs. Amy Smart

My name is Mrs. Smart, and I feel so lucky to be the choir director for C.S. Porter. There are two choirs per grade level. Each meets daily and prepares for four concert performances during the year. C.S. In choir, students not only build skills in musicianship and vocal music, but we also build skills in confidence, collaboration, accountability, commitment, and professionalism.

Porter also offers our varsity ensemble, Porterliers. This group is open by audition to 6th-8th grade students. The ensemble meets before school twice a week, and performs at school concerts and concerts in the community. They also participate in the Music in the Parks Festival in May. Auditions for our 2023-2024 ensemble will take place from Tuesday, September 5 through Friday, September 8. Rehearsals will begin on Monday, September 11 at 7:00 a.m. in the choir room.

Music is a part of everyone, and it is so exciting to help students discover just what they are capable of. Music isn't something to fear, but rather something to celebrate, explore and create.

I am a Green Bay Packers fan from Minnesota. Over the course of my career, I have taught everything from elementary and high school general music, choral ensembles ranging in ages from 3rd grade through college level, and music education preparatory classes at the college level. I've also developed and taught country music appreciation at both the University of Montana and Western Washington University. When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our three kids, and our dog (Willie Nelson) and cat (Milo).

I also enjoy writing music with and performing with my band, Modified Lockdown.
