Primary Years Programme
Lewis and Clark Elementary School is an IB World School offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP). Lewis and Clark's Program of Inquiry is a set of 36 vertically and horizontally aligned academic explorations whereby students explore 6 units of inquiry designed by the their grade level team. Our units synthesize the IB's six transdisciplinary themes with national and state standards.Franklin Elementary School is an approved candidate school, working to incorporate the IB PYP into our school setting. We believe it is important that all students learn to think critically and challenge assumptions. We also believe that students should be encouraged to consider concepts that they learn in terms of both local and global contexts.Middle Years Programme
Washington Middle School announces plan for International Baccalaureate and Dual Language Immersion instruction starting with 2018-19 school year. At the regularly scheduled board meeting on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 6:00 p.m., Mrs. Kacie Laslovich, principal of Washington Middle School, will make a brief presentation about upcoming academic plans for the school. In the information-only agenda item, Mrs. Laslovich will describe the school’s process of becoming an International Baccalaureate (IB) candidate school and plans to implement the IB Middle Years Program (MYP).
In addition, the school will be implementing Dual Language Immersion (DLI) instruction for students who express the preference and demonstrate proficiency for middle-school-level Spanish immersive instruction. There will be two classes offered daily delivered in Spanish language instruction- Spanish Language Acquisition and Media Arts. Both classes will be taught by a teacher certified in Spanish and will amount to 90-minutes per day of instruction in Spanish. This is the same amount of instructional time in Spanish for 3rd – 5th grade students in the Paxson Dual Language Immersion program.Students from Paxson, Lewis and Clark and Rattlesnake matriculate into Washington Middle School. Lewis and Clark Elementary is an IB Primary Years Program school and Rattlesnake focuses on place-based learning. The combination of the IB MYP and DLI academic focus is designed to meet the needs of all students at Washington Middle School. The District will work with an educational consultant who specializes in IB and DLI programs to help create the scope and sequence of classes and to align the standards and curricula within the IB and DLI frameworks.
Diploma Programme
Big Sky High School was authorized as an International Baccalaureate (IB) Program World School in Spring 2015. IB World Schools share a common philosophy - a commitment to high-quality, challenging international education - that we believe is important for our students. The IB program is open to all Big Sky students who are motivated to embrace new challenges. It is designed to prepare students to attend a college or university. Participation in IB is open to all juniors and seniors who have completed the pre-requisite courses. Students may choose to complete the full IB Diploma Program, or only individual courses for IB certificates. Currently Big Sky offers a range of IB courses including, but not limited to: IB Spanish, IB French, IB Psychology, IB Business Management, IB Chemistry, IB Sport, Exercise and Health, IB Theatre and IB Visual Arts.Hellgate High School is one of only 3 International Baccalaureate (IB) high schools in Montana – two of which are in Missoula. Hellgate High School became an IB World School in 2012, agreeing to the shared common philosophy – a commitment to high-quality, challenging international education. Any student who is a self motivated learner is encouraged to challenge themselves through participation in the IB Program at Hellgate. Participation in IB is open to all juniors and seniors who have completed the pre-requisite courses. Students may choose to complete the full IB programme or individual courses for IB certificates. Currently, Hellgate offers a range of IB courses including, but not limited to: IB Biology, IB Sports Exercise and Health, IB Environmental Systems, IB Visual Arts, IB Spanish, IB French, IB German, IB Latin and IB Music.
