MCPS kindergarten teachers are implementing two programs to build trust between families and schools, help parents set high expectations for students, and support learning at home. At Rattlesnake Elementary, kindergarten teachers began Parent Teacher Home Visits (PTHV), and Paxson Elementary and Franklin Elementary kindergarten and first grade teachers. initiated Academic Parent Teacher Teams (APTT). These programs replaces the traditional parent teacher conferences with parent meetings where families learn from each other, set academic goals for their child based on data shared by teachers, and learn and practice games to play at home that build on skills their children are learning at school. Creating strong partnerships with parents early on helps set the stage for a successful academic career.
