Think High-Fiber!

  • Sometimes, finding healthy snacks can be tricky.  Below is a list of great and simple go-to's.  For the sake of variety and personal taste - a good standard technique is to think high-in-fiber foods.

Why does fiber matter?

  • Fibers is a complex carbohydrate that the body cannot breakdown into simple sugars.  Instead, fiber assists slow and healthy digestion.  This created greater opportunity for the body to absorb nutrients, and it helps one feel more full.  Fiber helps to keep blood sugar in check.

What are high fiber foods?

  • High fiber foods are whole foods:  whole grains, seeds, whole fruits, whole vegetables, beans or legumes.  Smoothies are great and enjoyable sources of fiber.

The low-fat dairy option.

  • Low fat dairy products are a good source of protein and calcium to build strong bones.

Healthy Snack Options

    • whole grain crackers
    • diced fresh fruit
    • fresh vegetables and hummus
    • dried fruit like raisins, apricots, or applies
    • Greek yogurt
    • popcorn (air popped)
    • small whole grain zucchini or carrot muffins
    • brown rice cakes
    • chopped vegetables
    • fruit and vegetable smoothies
    • whole grain pretzels
    • finger sandwiches*
    • homemade trail mix*
