    Training

Athletes need to work on a variety of skills to ensure that they are prepared for competition day. Therefore, our practice will include one day of cardio, one day for event specific technique and one day of strength/agility training. Coaches will prepare workouts for specific days and athletes will rotate based on their desired events.

Practice at Stagner Track at Sentinel High School

We will be able to practice at Stagner Track on April 15th from 3:15pm-4:15pm and May 8th 2:30-3:45. Athletes will be bussed over to the track and parents will be expected to pick up their student at the conclusion of practice. More details will be sent out via email.

    Relays

New this year! All athletes wishing to compete on a 4x100m relay team must compete in at least one 100m dash during a track meet. Teams will be formed during the first few days of practice and will be based on the previous year's teams (7-8 grade only). For 6th grade, we will hold a relay run off to determine teams for the first track meet. We encourage all athletes to participate in a relay and will form multiple teams as needed.

    Academic Policy

Students will need to have passing grades to participate in track meets. We will no longer allow students to get their work in the day before meets. Grade checks will be every Friday. If a student athlete as a failing grade on a Friday preceding a track meet, they will not be able to participate in that next week's meet. The athletic director will contact you directly if this affects your child and if you have questions or concerns, please contact Daneijha Griffith djgriffith@mcpsmt.org

    Expectations

    • Attendance Policy - Athletes will not be able to attend the next track meet if they have more than one unexcused absence from school/track. We will be taking attendance.
    • No going to Yokes after school/before practice.
    • No phones at practice - if an athlete is asked to put away their phone more than once, they will be sent to the office to call parents/guardian for pick up.
    • No running in Crocs (if an athlete forgets shoes or needs shoes to run in, please contact Laura Reardon)
    • Be ready for practice before 3pm or 2:15 on Thursday. (Go to the bathroom, fill water bottle, get dressed in athletic gear all before coming outside).
    • Team Behavior Policy - It is our desire to create a fun, safe environment for all student athletes and to teach them the sport of Track and Field. Therefore, we are asking student athletes to follow the MCPS Behavior Policy. More specifically, athletes have been told: do not touch, push, grab someone's hat, make fun of a coach or another athlete at practice. Treat others with respect.
      • After the 2nd warning, the athlete will be removed from practice and a call will be made to the guardian.
      • After the 3rd warning, the athlete will not be able to attend practice for two days. (This could include NOT attending a Track Meet)
      • Continued warnings, the athlete will be removed from the team.

    Schedule

    Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 3:00pm - 4:15pm

    Thursday: 2:15pm - 3:30pm

    *Meet of Champions

At the qualifier track meet, an athlete needs to place in the top 6 for each event that there are entered in to qualify to move on to the Meet of Champions, including relays. An athlete can qualify for up to 5 events if they place in the top 6 for each event that they compete in. If you have questions, please reach out to a coach. If an athlete does not qualify for the meeting of champions, they are done for the season on May 13th.

We are excited for the season and look forward to creating a fun, positive, learning environment for all student athletes! If you have any questions, please don't hestitate to contact me at janicka@onedaylive.com
