• Fine Arts in January

    January is a month to take a breath and refresh with new material for the next phase of learning.

    Nevertheless, we have several events this month that are fun to see.

    Fly Up Concert

    Tuesday the 14th will see the “Fly Up Concert” of the Big Sky Band featuring the 8th Graders that are coming their way next fall. Always a great opportunity to see how fun band at the high school level can be. 

    All-State Jazz Band

    Last year the Montana Bandmaster Association in conjunction with several of our local directors reinvigorated the Montana All-State Jazz Band. There are two All-State Jazz Ensembles, a full blown Big Band and an amazing Jazz Combo. The event will be held in Billings this year with several Missoula jazz band students selected to participate:

    Chinese New Year
    MCPS celebrates many holidays throughout the year. Our Paxson 3rd Graders will be having a Chinese New Year program on January 21 at 2:15.  It’s a wonderful wide world with all kinds of events to be celebrated.

    Meet the Artist
    Thanks to the Briar Diggs Foundation we are having our annual Meet the Artist event at 6pm on Thursday the 30th at Russell Elementary School from 6:30 - 8:00. This year’s artist is Jen Bardsley. Attendees will learn about her abstracted map painting and her process of combining

      Missoula named a 2019 BEST Community for Music Education 

    Missoula County Public Schools has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from the NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to Music Education. The designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.
