  • 2S Update 9.23.22

Posted by Char Sayler on 9/23/2022 1:32:00 PM
    Greetings, 2S Families! 😊☀
    • We read and re-read a book called Snowshoe Hare's Winter Home and we learned how to diagram and summarize the important parts of a narrative: characters, setting, conflict and resolution. We also wrote our own stories based on the characters.

    • We learned new subtraction strategies and practiced applying our strategies in word problems.

    • We will be reading in-depth letters and profiles of children around the world. We will use this text to compare our characters, identify the main idea in a text or paragraph, and determine an author's purpose.  🌎

    • We focused on consonant blends in word work this week.

    • We took a fantastic field trip to MCT and saw the play "Rainbow Fish." It was a great performance and the kids loved it!

    • We visited our school garden and picked some delicious vegetables!

    • We observed different maple trees in Pineview Park and made educated guesses as to why they are all changing colors at different rates. Mystery Science taught us more about how and why leaves change colors in the fall.

    • Library Book Bags are coming home today, please be sure to read the note in the bag. The kids have to return their books in the book bags or they aren't allowed to check any out. Our checkout day is every Friday. If they return their bags before Friday, we will keep them in our Library Bin until check out.

    • The kids are welcome to bring slippers or go in stocking feet in our room!

    • We have a couple kiddos who don't have water bottles, if you have a couple you could donate to our classroom, that would be fantastic! We bring water bottles home on the last day of the week to be cleaned, but PLEASE send them back on the first day of the week. We don't want the kids drinking out of the fountain, and although we have little cups to use in a pinch, they are not sanitary when used in our classroom, especially with cold/flu/covid season. Thank you for your help with this!

    Enjoy this beautiful weather!
