    Hello 3L Parents and Guardians,

February flew by and it’s already conference time!  In the month of March we do not have a lot going on but here are a few things.

    • March 9th-11th:  Parent/Teacher Conferences! Thank you all for signing up so quickly.
    • March 12th: Half Day, done at 11:00 am
    • No School March 13th
    • March 16th-20th  Spring Break!
    • Please remember students need to be reading 100 minutes every week.  Reading logs are due no later than Tuesdays each week.
    • Also in preparation of Smarter Balance Students have been practicing taking a short computer assessment each week.  This is allowing them to see how the test is formatted and how the questions are worded. We want your student to feel as prepared as possible when we take the state test at the end of the year.
    • Some ways you can help your student prep for SBAC are practicing math multiplication facts and typing skills!

Have a wonderful month, and I look forward to seeing you all at conferences.

    Hello Thunder Parents/Guardians!

It is time for Parent/Teacher Conferences. The sooner you sign up, the more likely you are to get your preferred time. Designated conferences days are Monday, March 9th Tuesday, March 10th, Wednesday, and March 11th.

    Here’s how you sign up:

    1. Go to signupgenius page!
    2. Choose the conference time slot that works best for you.
    3. SignupGenius will send you an automated confirmation as well as a reminder 2 days prior to your conference.

Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns, and/or need additional information and help. I look forward to meeting with you to discuss your Thunderbolt!

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Morgan Loya

  • Valentines Day

    Valentine’s Day

On Friday, February 14, we will have a Valentine celebration from 2:15-3:00. Students are encouraged to bring in valentines for their classmates

This year, I am going to ask that Valentine boxes, bags, or envelopes be made at home. A fun thing I like to do with my class is have a Valentine’s Box Contest.  A big part of our party will be viewing all the boxes and voting for certain categories.

I will have large envelopes (if you need one), as well as paper if that is needed. Any small box will work (shoe box, Kleenex box, cereal box, cracker box, etc.…) or a large manila envelope. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any assistance with supplies.

    Hello 3L Family,

January flew by!  I cannot believe January has come and gone! Below is some information regarding some upcoming events for 3L.

Please continue to practice math facts with your student.  They more fluent they are the better they will do in 4th grade and on the Math SBAC.  If you need multiplication cards let me know, or you can download a set from my webpage.

No School-There will be no school for students on Monday, February 10, as this is a staff PIR day.

    I Love To Read Month

February is “I Love to Read Month.” Therefore, students will continue to keep track of their reading nightly. Your child should be reading a minimum of 20 minutes per night. Please have them write in their book title and minutes read on their Read At Home Logs (RAHL). Students and parents will both sign off on this, and it is due EVERY TUESDAY.

The week of February 10th-14th is “I Love to Read Week.” Each day of this week will have a theme where students can dress up. The themes are as follows:

    Tuesday 11th-Hats Off to Reading...wear a hat

Wednesday 12th- Read my Shirt…wear apparel that needs to be read

Thursday 13th Cozy up with a good book … wear pjs and comfortable clothes to read

Friday 14th- -Show Your Love for Reading & Flashlight Friday …wear red and hearts and read with the lights off and flashlights on. Bring in a flashlight!

Finally… Each day, we will Drop Everything and Read.  Mrs. Stevens will read a short poem over the loudspeaker each day to announce the beginning of DEAR time.  Time will vary each day. The Poem will be the signal to get set. This is a 15-minute blocks each day where everyone in the school will be encouraged to stop what they are doing and read.

    Valentine’s Day

On Friday, February 14, we will have a Valentine celebration from 2:15-3:00. Students are encouraged to bring in valentines for their classmates (I will provide a list of names with this letter).

This year, I am going to ask that Valentine boxes, bags, or envelopes be made at home. A fun thing I like to do with my class is have a Valentine’s Box Contest.  A big part of our party will be viewing all the boxes and voting for certain categories.

    Keyboarding Practice

Third graders have been practicing weekly on keyboarding skills in the classroom using Typing.com.  I strongly encourage your child to continue practicing at home using Word, Notes (tablet), or Typing.com. Your child can log in using their MCPS Google account information attached to @student.mcpsmt.org (ex 27doejoh@student.mcpsmt.org).

This practice will be increasingly beneficial when we take the Smarter Balanced Assessment in May.

    Book Orders

Our next book order will be submitted on the afternoon of February 19.

    PTO Bingo Fundraiser

Information about Bingo has made its way home in your child’s agenda pocket.  If you would be willing to donate an item or items for our basket, it would be greatly appreciated.  Our theme is But First, Coffee (a coffee themed everything basket!). Also, if you have a business connection and would be interested in donating a Mega Prize for auction, that too would also be greatly appreciatedJ.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me through email (meloya@mcps.k12.mt.us) or by phone 542-4010 or 728-2400 x4101.

    Thanks,

    Morgan Loya

  • Thank You!

    Thank you, PTO!

At the January meeting, our awesome PTO approved our grade-level grant to help us purchase more Chromebooks for our Thunderbolts. These Chromebooks will be purchased with both PTO Funds as well as funds from our Third Grade Thunder shirt sales. In addition to our existing number of Chromebooks, we will now have two full class sets that we can use to practice our keyboarding skills, type stories, research, and so much more! We greatly appreciate PTO’s purchasing assistance and everything that they do!

If you would like to get involved, PTO meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm in our school library.
