  • January Update

Posted by Jennifer Seaman on 1/24/2020 6:00:00 PM

    Happy January!

We have been jumping back into the swing of things since we returned from winter break.

Now that we are about half way through the school year I have some reminders and updates:

    • Thank you for continuing to check the planner every night for important information and homework.
      • When a student brings their planner signed they receive $2 of our classroom money, and recently I enforced a $1 fine for a planner not being initialed or not being at school.
    • We have started doing Ketchup and Pickles on Fridays for about 30 minutes.  Students with all their work completed and turned in get to pick (pickles) a free time activity.  Those who are missing work catch up (ketchup) during that time.
    • On February 7th we are going to the Missoula Symphony's Children's Performance.  I am looking for a couple more parent volunteers to join us.
      • Remember, you must have your volunteer paperwork on file to join us.
      • A field trip form will be coming home Monday.
    • Be Well Club will start in February.  This is an opportunity for students to get moving before the school day.  It runs Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings starting in February and going through the beginning of March.
      • Be on the lookout for the permission slip coming home Monday.
      • Tuesdays are Jump Rope/ Cup stacking, Wednesdays are Oula (dance fitness) and Thursdays are basketball.  They can participate in 1 day, 2 days, or all 3.
    • A message from Mrs. Opstad -The Jump Rope for Heart Fundraiser is starting soon!
      •  The American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge event is starting soon!  To get ready, help your child sign up at www.heart.org/kidsheartchallenge or download the free  “Kids Heart Challenge” app and register. Your child will choose their heart health challenge and earn a FREE powerband for registering online.  AND you can help us win the classroom challenge! The class with the most students registered online will win!  Please help us!

Finally, we have had a lot of conversations about treating others in the classroom and all adults in the building with respect. We have really be focusing on acknowledging when someone is speaking to you by nodding or responding respectfully, and using a respectful tone.  A little kindness goes a long way!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  • Every Kid in a Park Program

Posted by Jennifer Seaman on 12/2/2019 12:00:00 PM

    Fourth Grade Families,

Today I will be sending home a free pass to all federal parks, lands, and waters from the Every Kid Outdoors program for this school year, as well as information on what the pass allows you to do.

Below is some additional information from the Every Kid in a Park website.  This is an amazing opportunity for fourth grade students!

    -Ms. Seaman

Did you know that you own millions of acres of national parks, historic structures, cultural artifacts, ancient forests, snow-capped mountains, and clear blue lakes? Our federal public lands and waters belong to all Americans and are waiting for you to explore them! To learn more visit: www.everykidinapark.gov.

To help engage and create our next generation of park visitors, supporters and advocates, Federal Land Management agencies, launched the Every Kid in a Park initiative. The immediate goal is to provide an opportunity for each and every 4th grade student across the country to experience their federal public lands and waters in person throughout the school year. The Every Kid in a Park pass is good for the 4th grade school year, until August 31, 2020.

  • Classroom Update 10/16

Posted by Jennifer Seaman on 10/16/2019 4:00:00 PM

We have been working on constructed responses and adding evidence to our answers in reading.  It is important to get the right answer, but it's even more important to be able to prove your answer using evidence from the text.  We use the acronym RACE when writing constructed responses.  R- Restate, A - Answer, C - Cite evidence, E - Explain.

In math, we are starting our multiplication unit.  Practicing multiplication facts 0-9 at home is a great way to support the new skills we are learning in the classroom.

Next week, we will start writing Biographical Spotlights on people who have made a difference.

Next Friday at 2:15 is our Lewis and Clark Musical.  Families are welcome to come watch!

    Important Dates:

Lewis and Clark Musical 10/25 at 2:15

    Naturalist Field Trip 10/30

Lady Griz Field Trip 11/5 *Volunteers Needed*

Bingo Night/ Book Fair Preview 11/8 (more info to come)

Parent Teacher Conferences Week of 11/11 (more info to come)

    Enjoy your extended weekend!
