  • End of Week One

Posted by Mary Finnegan on 3/27/2020 4:00:00 PM

As week one of our school closure comes to an end, I just want to take a moment to let you know that I appreciate each and every one of you for all you have done to support your children on our adventures in remote learning this week!  It has been a steep learning curve for me, but I am committed to doing everything I can to help our little classroom community stay connected and engaged during these uncertain and very different times.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I will "see" you Monday at 10:30am for our morning Zoom meeting.  If you need the code to join, please don't hesitate to e-mail me at msfinnegan@mcpsmt.k12.mt.us

  • What To Expect This Week

Posted by Mary Finnegan on 3/23/2020 2:00:00 PM

    Greetings First Grade Families!

As you already know, MCPS is closed from March 23rd – 27th. We are fortunate that our Teaching and Learning Department has done an amazing job of compiling resources for you to access this week. Please review what they have prepared and do only what works for your family. Many of the links will require you to enter your child’s username and password. If you run into this issue, please do not hesitate to contact me via e-mail (msfinnegan@mcps.k12.mt.us) and I will happily get you the information you need to log in.

+For district-wide, up-to-date information regarding the school closure, please visit: https://www.mcpsmt.org/covid-19

+ Breakfast & Lunch bags will be available to any child, ages 0-18 at Russell Elementary Monday-Friday, 10:00am – 1:00pm.  Please enter at the back of the building through the cafeteria doors. Each bag will contain breakfast and lunch inside.  These bags will also be delivered by Beach Transportation to bus stops.  To see when your "lunch bus" will arrive, go to infofinder routes and type in your address to find the nearest drop off location/times. Please know that these breakfast + lunch bags are available to ALL children up to age 18 regardless of free/reduced lunch status.   Please send only one family member to pick up these bags and remember to keep 6 feet distance between you and other individuals who are also picking up food.

+ Please continue to watch for messages from me throughout the week and check my blog for posts!

Stay well and please give your kiddos a BIG HUG from me!

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Finnegan

  • Support Rare Disease Day

Posted by Mary Finnegan on 2/13/2020 4:05:00 PM

SUPPORT RARE DISEASE DAY AND WEAR YOUR ‘GENES’ FEBRUARY 28TH

Rare Disease Day is February 29th.  This is a day to raise awareness for patients, families, friends, teachers and caregivers who aid in helping others who are special in our world.   It’s a call for action for people living with a rare disease to realize their potential for participation in family, work and social life.

The 300 million people living with a rare disease around the world and their families face common challenges in their daily lives.  There are over 6000 rare diseases that are chronic, progressive, degenerative, disabling and frequently life threatening. Due to the rarity of each individual disease and scattered populations, expertise and information is scarce.  The long-term goal of Rare Disease Day is increased equity for people living with a rare disease and their families.

What can Russell Bears do to support?

On Friday, February 28th wear your ‘genes’ (blue jeans) to help bring awareness to these efforts of support for these people and their families—perhaps there is someone you know that is living with a rare disease…perhaps your child has a classmate that is living with a rare disease?
