Meet your Principal

  • Cameron Johnson

    Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year at the Missoula Online Academy. We are excited to have you join our unique community. This marks our 4th year in operation and we are excited to serve you and your student(s). The MOA is a unique educational opportunity for Missoula high school students. We have world class educators who understand the diverse needs of our students while continuing to offer the best in online education.

I would like to take a moment to share a bit about myself: Over the past 15 years I have worked in a variety of educational settings in Montana, including as a classroom teacher and, most recently, as assistant principal at Big Sky High School. I grew up in Arlee, Montana and graduated from the University of Montana. When not at school I enjoy spending time in the outdoors with my family, hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, skiing, and whenver possible, surfing.

As in previous years, this year ushers in some changes to the MOA. The staff for this year’s MOA include Christine Kolczak (counselor/ TOSA), Jennifer Ellis (english), Alex Rotzal (math), Abigail Jones (science), Jennifer Gilbert (special education), Melanie Jeffs (attendance/ secretary), and Sara Flannery (para). With limited staffing this year, the MOA will be offering a mix of synchronous and asynchronous classes, some provided by MCPS staff, others by third party providers. Please watch for an email from Ms. Kolczak with links to select asynchronous courses for the year.

Below you will find some basic information to help with the start of the school year. If you have questions or need additional information, please email me at: crjohnson@mcpsmt.org or 728-2400, ext. 2850.

    • Annual Forms: It is of particular importance that MOA students complete their Annual forms at the start of the year. The Acceptable Use Form is necessary for students to utilize our online platform. Those forms are available online and in person at both the MOA office and the site school office.

    • Bell Schedule & Calendar: The MOA will continue to align with the 3 MCPS urban high schools and offer 7 period days, with block A/B days on Wednesday and Thursday. Thursday will be a late start for high school students that includes a required Advisory Period. The MOA will offer Semester 1 and Semester 2 classes and will follow the school calendar of the 3 urban high schools. The first day of classes for MOA students will be August 30th. This day will include an in-person component for material and textbook check-out. We will publish a schedule for attendance in the next week.

    • Student Schedules: Infinite Campus is open for students to view their class schedule. While students can see their core courses in Infinite Campus, there will be large gaps where the additional asynchronous courses will be added.

    • Family Resource Center: If you have questions about housing and/or food resources, please contact Ms. Kolczak or Cameron and they will help connect students and families with site school FRC (family resource) coordinators.

Thank you again for being a partner in your student’s education!  We want all students to have a successful start to their school year! We are a proud MOA community, excited for the new year and look forward to having a great school year together! Again, don’t hesitate to reach out if you have ANY questions.

    Sincerely,

    Cameron Johnson
