Remote learning - Here we go!

Hello families!!

Wild times, huh?  I admit I was ready for some time off when spring break started, but am so sad to not be back in the class with your kids! I miss them. This is making it clearer than ever just how much they enrich my days.

I hope you all are staying healthy and sane. This disruption to our routines and freedom is difficult to handle. I am focusing on tried and true self care methods, and finding new ones to boot. My hope is that you all are doing the same. As we move through this time, we will all need people we can connect with, even if we have to keep distance between us. I am working on systems that will allow us – you and me as well as your kids and me – to stay connected face to face, as much as we can remotely.  I hope to have everything ready Monday.  Given this is new to me and likely new to you, I ask that we all practice patience. There are bound to be some potholes along the way. I am committed to forging on, improving what I can, and finding different ways when needed.

So… I will be sending a link to on-line “office times” in which you can connect with me (haven’t totally settled on the platform yet) on Monday. I’ll be able to explain what I have made available for home based school work, where to find it, how to assist with it.   I would also love to arrange a virtual group meeting for the students, so we can touch bases with each other, tell about any spring break fun we had, how we feel about school closure, just chat for a while. What I need from you is a response to the following questions:

  1. Do you have computer/tablet that can access online meetings (with camera, and microphone), or a phone on which you could participate?
    1. Are you comfortable allowing your child to use those tools to meet with me? With classmates? (If not, no worries, we’ll figure out a different way to connect.)
  2. Do you have the technology needed to access activities and materials needed for at home schoolwork?

Lastly (for now), I plan to use this blog to keep you all updated.  I’ll also post announcements on my page. Keep an eye out for mass notification messages from me, the school and the district. And as always, please feel free to reach out to me.  I am checking my email daily.

Thank you for shooting back a response to each of those two questions.  Hang in there.  We’ll do our best.  I trust that even though the path will be different for a time, all will be well in the end.
