Junior English- The Taming of the Shrew Module

Hello parents and guardians!  The following is information about what we're doing in Junior English class these days.

On Nov. 11, we began reading Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew.  This text is the focus of Unit 2 of our first EngageNY module of the year.  This unit addresses multiple Common Core State Standards in reading, writing, and speaking and listening.

Currently, we are working through Act 3 of this 5 act play.  In addition to reading portions of the play aloud, we are also watching the 1967 movie production of The Taming of the Shrew.  Students have done a Shakespeare webquest to build background on the life and times in which this play is set and the playwrite lived.  They have worked on reading and writing tasks related to this play individually, in small groups, and as a whole class.  We are building up to a mid-unit assessment at the end of this week and will then forge ahead with Acts 4 and 5, finishing the play by the holiday break.  When we return, we will watch a much more modern movie adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew and then complete our end-of-unit assessment.

Please email me if you have any questions, concerns, or anything at all to share with me.  As always, it's a privilege to work with your kids!
