Food and Nutrition Program

The MCPS Kitchen is passionate about creating healthy, fun breakfasts and lunches. Many items are prepared from scratch, although we also serve some student favorites that are prepared items.  Every item we serve meets USDA standards that prioritize healthy, whole foods including protein, fruits and vegetables.  Behind the scenes...kitchen staff plan menus, order ingredients, and show up early every day to prepare great meals that keep kids smiling and ready to learn.
 
Breakfast Program - USDA School Breakfast Program
  • MCPS students have the opportunity to get a filling and nutritionally complete breakfast before school begins each day.  A rotating menu of breakfast items is served.  All of the meals include at least one serving of whole grains, a serving of fruit, 100% fruit juice and low-fat or non-fat white milk.
  • We provide Free Breakfast in the Classroom at MCPS elementary and middle schools. At the start of the day, students are given the opportunity to select breakfast items at no charge. 
  • High school students can pick up breakfast in the school cafeteria on their way to class. 

Lunch Program - USDA National School Lunch Program

  • The District produces an average of 5,000 meals each day.  The Central Kitchen staff prepare and distribute roughly 3,000 of those meals to 12 elementary and middle schools throughout Missoula. Food service staff prepare meals onsite at each high school.
  • All elementary and middle schools have offered salad bars since 2014, with local produce when possible. Research shows that incorporating salad bars into school lunches increases students' consumption of fruits and vegetables. High school students may select from fresh fruit and vegetable options at lunch.

  • High School (Grades 9-12)
         Breakfast   $2.25
         Lunch        $3.25 

Paying for School Meals

Does your child eat school meals? If so, please check their meal account balance. If your child is eating breakfast and/or lunch prepared at school, there's a good chance they are putting those meals on a meal account. Please take a moment to ensure your child's account balance is in good standing.

You can check your child's meal account balance through our Infinite Campus Student Information System.

All MCPS students who would like breakfast or lunch at school will be given a meal, regardless of their ability to pay or meal account status.

Cash or Check payment may be dropped off at the front office of the school. Teachers and kitchen staff can only accept cash or checks. Please be sure to provide your student’s first and last name with every payment.
