April Happenings
Posted by Alicia St. Clair on 4/1/2023It is April already! This month my class will be having a lot of Art Integration. We will have SPARK arts and MU art students working in our classroom bringing in cultures and liefcycles.
We will also be continuing to add and subtract within 10 in math. And, we will begin word problems! In Reading we are looking at various cultures around the world. We will focus our writing this month on publishing our class book. Our publishing day is April 21. In Science we are looking at big machines as they pertain to pushes and pulls. And, in social studies, we will be looking at changes over time.
The annual Fun Run is April 28. Mark your calendars!

March Happenings
Posted by Alicia St. Clair on 3/5/2023As we enter into March in the Busy Bees room, we are diving into Fairy Tales. We will be reading about The Three bears, Jack and the Beanstalk, and the Three Little Pigs. Our PLTW science curriculum will guide us through discussions of the Structure and Function of objects and allow students the opportunity for STEM challenges. In social studies we will continue discussions about geography by looking at human characteristics, human-environmental interactions, and movement. In math we are finishing our unit on subtracting within 5 and moving on to making and finding missing parts of 10.
Parent-Teacher conferences are March 15&16.
NO School March 17-26. Return on March 27.

February 2023
Posted by Alicia St. Clair on 2/1/2023It is the month of Groundhog, the 100th day, Love, and Presidents Day. We will be very busy in our classroom celebrating and learning this month! Remember there is no school for students Feb. 13 or 20th. We are starting addition this month as soon as we wrap up our shapes unit. We are also learning a lot about the weather. Our Character Strong trait for the month is Honesty so we will be talking about how important it is to be honest with one another at school and at home. Thank you to all of the amazing volunteers who have been helping out in our classroom. I appreciate it so much and students love having extra loving adults to share their learning experience with daily.

Posted by Alicia St. Clair on 1/1/2023Welcome 2023! This month we will be learning about Snow, shapes, CVC words, informational and narrative writing, sunlight and warmth and reading The Mitten and The Hat.

We will be beginning our Gingerbread theme for December. Comparing books, crafting, making gingerbread houses, counting and sorting gingerbread items, STEM activities and more!

Dec 20 Gingerbread making in class
Dec. 21 PJ and hot cocoa day. Students may bring their favorite hot chocolate mug that day (travel mugs with lids are best but some love festive regular mugs and that's ok)

Posted by Alicia St. Clair on 11/2/2022We welcome the end of trimester 1 on Nov. 4. Report cards will be sent home Nov. 8 and conferences are scheduled for that week.

This month we are learning about Farms Now and Then, Old Things, weather patterns, national monuments, One more and comparing numbers to 10, narrative writing, sequencing and labeling, and continuing mouse and keyboard practice. We will be discussing and sharing about gratefulness in class as well.

We are continuing color week, beginning numbers 0-5, identifying letters of the alphabet, beginning handwriting strategies, becoming scientists/inventors, and learning about being a part of a classroom community.

School will start August 30 for Kindergarteners. On this first day, a parent needs to attend with the child for the 1hr you are assigned. We will tour the school and discuss the year. Please bring in school supplies at this time.
Aug. 30 9-10am Last names A-K
10:30-11:30 Last names L-Z
*with parent
August 31 is a minimum day. 11am dismissal for K. Grab n go lunches will be available.
Sept. 1 is 8:10-2:30 (early out day) Bring or pay for lunch

May Happenings
Posted by Alicia St. Clair on 5/12/2022 12:00:00 PMHappy May! So much is happening in our room this month. We have beans sprouting, grass growing, and butterflies hatching. We are preparing for our graduation on June 9 by practicing our songs. And, we will begin our end of year countdown soon.
