About the Teacher

    A good day at Whitefish.

Hello, my name is Todd Johnson, and I teach high school English for MOA.  I have been teaching for 21 years, mostly at 2-year colleges in Washington, where I specialized in developmental English.   I have also taught ESL and Adult Basic Education.

This is my first year teaching for MCPS, but it is not my first year working with MCPS high school students.  I was a writing instructor for Missoula College many years ago and taught dual enrollment composition classes to seniors.  I also volunteered as a coach with Writing Coaches of Montana for over five years and helped students at many schools in and around Missoula.

I really enjoy teaching for MOA.  I especially enjoy helping students meet their goals during these very challenging times.  This winter, I was also fortunate to be an assistant high school swim coach.

I grew up in Great Falls, swimming for the Guppies and Bison, skiing at Showdown, and hunting near the Highwood Mountains.  I attended the University of Montana for both a B.A. in English Education and an M.A. in English literature.  I have lived and taught in Seoul, Korea; Seattle, WA; Nevis, West Indies; Judith Gap, MT; and here in Missoula twice before.

When I am not teaching English or coaching swimming, I love to ski, hike, camp, bike, swim, travel, and have adventures with my wife Katie.  I also enjoy watching movies, reading, writing, and walking my dog Hugo.
