I am excited to be entering my 6th year of teaching this school year! I previously taught in Nebraska where I was born and raised. I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Creighton University and completed my Master’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education 2018. My husband, Caleb, and I enjoy cycling, drinking coffee, hiking, biking, reading, and spending time with family.

    We are planning a fun even in our classrooms the week of Valentine's Day to excite students about a variety of books and reading.     5th Grade Spelling Bee

    During the month of January, students in 5th grade will participate in multiple classroom spelling bees to earn a spot in the School Bee which will be held on Friday, January 31st from 9:15-10:15.  Five students from each 5th grade classroom will qualify for the School Bee. If your child is a participant, we will let you know and be sending home a study list.

    Students are super excited about the 40 book challenge.  So far, our class had a read a total of 849  books.

    We have started using an online adaptive math program called Prodigy.  Students can access this work at home. In your child’s folder you will find the login information for the site.

    5th Grade Spelling Bee

    Holiday Information

    Our Holiday Party will be on Wednesday, December 18th from 1:00 - 1:45. We will be having hot cocoa and cookies. Students will do the book exchange and watch a short movie. Parents are always welcome, but please know it will be a very simple celebration this year and parking may be difficult to holiday performances.

    Wednesday, December 18th at 2:00.  Sounds like the music program will be about 45 minutes.  Following the music program, students will move to the cafeteria for a short band/orchestra concert.

    Home Resource - Zero Waste Ambassador Program

    The Zero Waste Ambassador program is designed to help young Missoulians think more critically about the materials we use where they come from and where they go. We have two field trips coming up as a part of this program. Opt outs for these two field trips are in this week’s Thursday folder as well as a permission slip - please sign and return!

    Landfill: Tuesday, November 26 12:00 - 1:30

    Thursday Folders are coming home today, as we know tomorrow, Halloween, can be rather crazy. Please return folders signed tomorrow, October 31st. 

    Pumpkin Carving

    5th grade will be teaming up with Kindergarten to do a pumpkin carving on October 31 from 10:15 - 11:30.

    • We are seeking donations of carving supplies for this event. Please send donations to school by October 30.
    • I am in need of 2-3 volunteers to support with carving. Please email if interested. **Must have volunteer paperwork complete to attend**

    Halloween

    • Students may wear their costumes to school. Please remember no weapons and students must be able to perform daily tasks such as sitting and writing.
    • Our classroom Halloween Party will begin at 1:45.

     

    Lady Griz Basketball Trip

    Students in 5th grade will attend a Lady Griz basketball game on Tuesday, November 5th.  If you do NOT want your child to attend, please complete the opt out form and return. If you’d like to purchase a sack lunch from the cafeteria, please complete and return form.

    Things to know:

    • Students will NEED a sack lunch.
    • Students will NOT be allowed to visit the concessions.

    MAM (Missoula Art Museum) Field Trip

    Students will be touring and participating in an art project at the Missoula Art Museum on Monday, October 28th.  Students will also visit the Missoula Public Library. A few reminders for this trip:

    • Students will need a sack lunch.
    • Students will be painting with acrylic paint, which will stain clothes, please send student in appropriate clothing.
    • Please send your student with their library card to check out books if they already have one. 
    • If you sent in a library card application, students will receive them at the library. 

    Halloween

    • Students may wear their costumes to school. Please remember no weapons and students must be able to perform daily tasks such as sitting and writing.
    • Our classroom Halloween Party will begin at 1:45.

    Boxes for Art

    Band Update

    Starting the week of 10/14 Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday rehearsal will be ALL Band. Friday will be clarinets only.

    Easy ways to Earn Money for Jeannette Rankin Elementary

    • When shopping at Missoula Fresh Market, please write Jeannette Rankin on the top of the receipt.  We get 5% back.
    • When Shopping at The Good Food Store, ask them to apply the Jeannette Rankin school code.  A 3% goes back to the school.
    • If you’d like to donate books to the Book Exchange, you can put them on the JRE account.  Credit will be applied to the account for teachers to use.

    I am so excited about the reading going on in 5U this school year! To become better readers, we read more. Thank you for your support at home! We have read 315 books! WOW!

    Math Work Grading

    *Classwork is considered practice. We spot check this work, so you will see that they are only partially graded. 

    *Pink tests and quizzes are fully graded.

    *Yellow math packets are done in small groups. We often pick and choose problems to complete. Please use the unfinished problems as extra practice at home.  

    Art Class 

    Mrs. Thompson, our Art teacher, is asking students to bring in boxes for an upcoming project. She is looking for thin cardboard boxes not corrugated. (Example: cereal, cracker boxes). Students may bring these in any time in the next week. Thank you!

    Volunteer Information 

    5th Grade will be looking for volunteers for the 5th Grade Art Experience field trip at the end of October. 5U will be going on October 29th. More information will come home as it gets closer.

    Fun Run is tomorrow! Join us at 12:45 to cheer on your student! Last I heard 5U was in the top 3 Jeannette Rankin classes for pledges - KEEP IT UP! Money and packets are due by October 4.
