I am excited to be entering my 6th year of teaching this school year! I previously taught in Nebraska where I was born and raised. I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Creighton University and completed my Master’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education 2018. My husband, Caleb, and I enjoy cycling, drinking coffee, hiking, biking, reading, and spending time with family.

    Thursday Folders are coming home today, as we know tomorrow, Halloween, can be rather crazy. Please return folders signed tomorrow, October 31st. 

    Pumpkin Carving

    5th grade will be teaming up with Kindergarten to do a pumpkin carving on October 31 from 10:15 - 11:30.

    • We are seeking donations of carving supplies for this event. Please send donations to school by October 30.
    • I am in need of 2-3 volunteers to support with carving. Please email if interested. **Must have volunteer paperwork complete to attend**

    Halloween

    • Students may wear their costumes to school. Please remember no weapons and students must be able to perform daily tasks such as sitting and writing.
    • Our classroom Halloween Party will begin at 1:45.

     

    Lady Griz Basketball Trip

    Students in 5th grade will attend a Lady Griz basketball game on Tuesday, November 5th.  If you do NOT want your child to attend, please complete the opt out form and return. If you’d like to purchase a sack lunch from the cafeteria, please complete and return form.

    Things to know:

    • Students will NEED a sack lunch.
    • Students will NOT be allowed to visit the concessions.

    MAM (Missoula Art Museum) Field Trip

    Students will be touring and participating in an art project at the Missoula Art Museum on Monday, October 28th.  Students will also visit the Missoula Public Library. A few reminders for this trip:

    • Students will need a sack lunch.
    • Students will be painting with acrylic paint, which will stain clothes, please send student in appropriate clothing.
    • Please send your student with their library card to check out books if they already have one. 
    • If you sent in a library card application, students will receive them at the library. 

    Halloween

    Band Update

    Starting the week of 10/14 Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday rehearsal will be ALL Band. Friday will be clarinets only.

    Easy ways to Earn Money for Jeannette Rankin Elementary

    • When shopping at Missoula Fresh Market, please write Jeannette Rankin on the top of the receipt.  We get 5% back.
    • When Shopping at The Good Food Store, ask them to apply the Jeannette Rankin school code.  A 3% goes back to the school.
    • If you’d like to donate books to the Book Exchange, you can put them on the JRE account.  Credit will be applied to the account for teachers to use.  

    40 Book Challenge

    I am so excited about the reading going on in 5U this school year! To become better readers, we read more. Thank you for your support at home! We have read 315 books! WOW!

    Math Work Grading

    *Classwork is considered practice. We spot check this work, so you will see that they are only partially graded. 

    *Pink tests and quizzes are fully graded.

    *Yellow math packets are done in small groups. We often pick and choose problems to complete. Please use the unfinished problems as extra practice at home.  

    Art Class 

    Mrs. Thompson, our Art teacher, is asking students to bring in boxes for an upcoming project. She is looking for thin cardboard boxes not corrugated. (Example: cereal, cracker boxes). Students may bring these in any time in the next week. Thank you!

    Volunteer Information 

    5th Grade will be looking for volunteers for the 5th Grade Art Experience field trip at the end of October. 5U will be going on October 29th. More information will come home as it gets closer.

    Volunteer Information 

    Throughout the school year I will be emailing seeking volunteer help in the classroom, with celebrations, and field trips (including upcoming Lady Griz Game, Winter field trip ,and end of year hike). Please complete the survey so I am aware if you are interested in volunteer opportunities and to make certain background checks are complete. I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE ANYONE ON FIELD TRIPS WHO DOES NOT HAVE A COMPLETED BACKGROUND CHECKS.

    Student Pull-Out

    It is essential that your students are in the classroom! There has been a large number of students leaving early at the end of the day.  Students are missing important content in writing, science, and social studies. The best time to pull a student from school for appointments would be from 9:15-10:15.  Thank you!

    JRE Fun Run

    FUN RUN pledging is now OPEN!  Please see attached for JRE pledging goals and helpful ways to spread the word.  All students who reach $200 in pledging by this Friday, Sept. 20th will be entered in a drawing to win a $15 gift card from Runners Edge (there will be four winners).

     Also, don’t forget about the 50 STATE CHALLENGE: Once JRE receives pledges from ALL 50 states Mrs. Stevens will dress up as her favorite superhero and ride a tricycle around the school to visit each class.  JRE currently has eight states (see attached map). Where else do we have family and friends willing to donate?! $5, $25, any amount makes a difference!
