MEETING 21st CENTURY NEEDS WITH OUR FACILITIES
Amy Shattuck, Principal
Welcome to Smart Schools 2020, a system wide initiative to create school facilities that provide students with the security, technology and dynamic learning environment they need to achieve in school and in life. As your principal, I'm pleased to say that Franklin Elementary School is part of that initiative and is planning significant and much-needed changes over the next few years.
Franklin Elementary School, constructed in 1916, was originally comprised of six rooms. Throughout the years additional rooms were added; not all were meant for learning spaces. Today, learning space is at a premium with increased enrollments forcing noninstructional spaces (storage, admin.) to be utilized for students. The aged building is in a constant cycle of repair, putting safety issues at the forefront. The current facilities do not support 21st century teaching and learning for staff and students.
Our proposal to recreate Franklin will serve students, teachers and staff well. It matches our focus on 21st-century teaching and learning. It will create a brand-new, dynamic learning environment where spaces are open and flexible - enabling multiuse and class-to-class collaboration - and where the emphasis is on safety and high-quality, 21st century education.
In order to address these key issues, Franklin Elementary School has conducted a thoughtful scoping process and is proposing an option that will rebuild Franklin and improve learning environments.
We invite you to learn more about the plan, and get involved in shaping the future of education for our children. Please feel free to email email@example.com or call me with questions.
