"I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all the kinds of things you can't see from the center."
    -Kurt Vonnegut
I enjoy teaching English because it allows me to share my love of writing with students while encouraging them to view the world with a curious but critical eye. Literature, poetry, and film provide an excellent starting point for valuable conversations about identity, community, social justice, tolerance, and ethics.
I'm proud to teach two intensive year-long introductory Creative Writing courses and two literary arts magazine courses. Aerie Big Sky is a magazine of the best prose, poetry, and visual art of Big Sky's own students. Aerie International is an international high school literary arts magazine which produces some of the best work from young people ages 13-19 across the globe. Advanced creative writing students work tirelessly to solicit and select submissions and produce these award-winning publications. Both magazines are counted among the best literary arts magazines in the country, and I look forward to continuing this legacy. At Big Sky, students are offered a rare opportunity to engage in year long creative writing and publishing classes. If you are interested in purchasing a magazine or learning more about the Creative Writing program at Big Sky, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Immediately following my high school years in Bozeman, I graduated in three years with a BA in English from the University of Montana. My primary focus was creative writing, and I was lucky to take workshops from talented nationally renowned writers. Following my graduation I went on to work in therapeutic youth group homes while using my free time to skate on the local roller derby league. I went back to school to pursue teaching licensure and had an excellent student teaching experience at Willard Alternative High School. Immediately following my student teaching I accepted a position teaching English and AP English at Hellgate High School during the 2013-2014 school year. I also had the privilege of coaching the Speech and Debate team. When I'm not at school you can find me enjoying time outdoors with my family, hanging out at the bookstore, or traveling.
I look forward to meeting you!
