WELCOME!  To the Lewis and Clark Music page. At L&C we believe that music is a vital part of a young child’s complete education. To facilitate that education children at L&C have a multi-faceted experience in the music room.  Our program is based on the philosophy of Orff Schulwerk, a music pedagogy begun by Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman in the early 1900’s.
Each year our students perform in a  mid-December Holiday Performance and a Spring Music Play or class performance.  Other special events include Gamelan Month when the entire student body learns how to play music on beautifully carved instruments from Bali, Indonesia. Some years the 5th grade students also get to participate in a Missoula tradition – the Wild Walk Parade.

Lewis and Clark Peace Choir Missoula Statement

The L&C Peace Choir is a multi-age, multi-grade activity that gives our students an additional opportunity to make music and perform. Through its inclusive nature it provides a vehicle for students to expand their relationship web within the school.  The repertoire of music empowers children to develop positive relationships, thinking strategies and helps in character building.  It exposes the singers to national and international cultures of song, helping to form global citizens.

The Lewis and Clark Peace Choir was formed in the 2007-08 school year under the direction of Jane McAllister, Dorothy Morrison and Kathy Dungan.

    Balinese Gamelan Angklung Unit

A gamelan is a percussion orchestra consisting of gongs and metalophones plus drums and bamboo flute. Each year the students in K-5 spend a month using these beautiful instruments, learning about the music and culture of Bali, Indonesia.
