MEETING 21st CENTURY NEEDS WITH OUR FACILITIES

    John Combs, Fine Arts Supervisor

Welcome to Smart Schools 2020, a system wide initiative to create school facilities that provide students with the security, technology and dynamic learning environment they need to achieve in school and in life. As your Fine Arts Director, I'm pleased to say that Jefferson Performing Arts is part of that initiative and is planning significant and much-needed changes over the next few years.

The high quality of Missoula's student band, choir, orchestra and theater performances is diametrically opposed to the quality of their performance space.  Most of our student ensemble performances occur in gymnasiums or concert venues that are outdated and/or were designed for multipurpose use.  The MCPS elementary and secondary bonds identify improvements to performance spaces at all of the schools.

The current Jefferson Gymnasium currently houses the staff and equipment of the MCPS Performing Arts Program and the Special Education Program as well as the MCPS Preschool.  The school will be used as a valuable swing space for students while schools are being remodeled.

We invite you to learn more about the plan, and get involved in shaping the future of education for our children.  Please feel free to email jcombs@mcps.k12.mt.us or call me with questions.
