    Susan Anderson, Principal
Welcome to Smart Schools 2020, a system wide initiative to create school facilities that provide students with the security, technology and dynamic learning environment they need to achieve in school and in life. As your principal, I'm pleased to say that Lewis and Clark is part of that initiative and is planning significant and much-needed changes over the next few years.
Our school was originally built to serve approximately 400 students.  As Missoula has grown, so has our enrollment.  In fact, over the past few years our enrollment has averaged between 480 and 490 students -- that's nearly 25 percent over capacity.
The result is not just crowded classrooms and logistical difficulties.  It interferes with student focus, impedes security and safety, reduces direct contact between staff ad students and -- thanks to an overused cafeteria -- even hurts students' daily nutrition.
In order to address these key issues, Lewis & Clark Elementary has conducted a thoughtful scoping process and is proposing an option that will reconfigure the library, cafeteria and classrooms, as well as pursue moderate expansion.
We invite you to learn more about the plan, and get involved in shaping the future of education for our children.  Please feel free to email sanderson@mcps.k12.mt.us or call me with questions.

The School Board has approved our preferred option, pending the passage of a facilities levy in 2015! Learn more about our goals and proposal>
