As I'm sure your child has reported, our Animal Wonders program is teaching us a bunch about important 3rd grade science concepts including life cycles, physical and behavioral adaptations, biomes and habitats. Jessi's animal ambassadors have included a beaver, sugar gliders, a 9 ft. boa constrictor, an armadillo, a porcupine, a Harris hawk and several other native and exotic species. We can't wait to see what cool critters tomorrow's final visit brings.
We are about a month out from our Spring conferences which will be student-led. This will give kids the opportunity to share their learning highlights with their parents (grandparents are always welcome, too) In a few weeks, you will receive another Blackboard message with a link inviting you to sign up for an afternoon or evening conference time. We will of course be available to answer any questions you may have during your conference.
Once again, I thank you for carving out a bit of Spanish reading time on school nights and for listening to your child as they read aloud and translate their weekly readers. I've had several parents comment on the impressive reading level their child has achieved.
As you've undoubtedly heard, 3rd grade is raising funds to help wildlife victims of Australia's recent devastating bushfires. Kids have created their own dual-language posters with compelling artwork and info which we will display in and around Paxson over the next few days.
Don't break the bank! I greatly appreciate their compassion, but kids can be a bit over zealous and donate their life savings. Let's not allow that! Pocket change up to a few dollars makes a big difference if we all pitch in.
If you'd like to support our kids' fundraising efforts by helping them to donate on-line, two reputable organizations with sites set up specifically for rescue/ relocation and veterinary services are The World Wildlife Fund and SPCA.
