Degrees and Certifications:
I grew up outside of Athens, Georgia, in a small town called Watkinsville. We had more cows that people in Watkinsville, and it was here that I fell in love with the outdoors and with reading. I found that through books, I was able to access a world that was simultaniously all my own and shared with everyone around me. I took my love of reading and writing with me to college at the University of Georgia, where I studied English- Creative Writing an Women's Studies. I found education by total happenstance: I was coaching volleyball at a local recreation department and realized that I loved working with kids. They made me laugh every day, and when I left work I always felt that I had made a difference. I received my MA in Education from the University of Colorado at Boulder and taught in Longmont, Colorado, for almost three years. My husband and I traveled for a year, first backpacking in 15 National Parks in the American West and then spending three months in India and Nepal. We moved to Montana in August of 2017. I am thrilled to be working at Big Sky High School. In addition to teaching, I also work as a volleyball coach for Sentinel High School and Zootown Volleyball Club.
In my free time, I love hiking and backpacking; growing, cooking and preserving really, really good food; playing and listening to music; and spending time with friends, family, and my husband and our dog.
