Degrees and Certifications:

Kate Varley

My name is Kate Varley and I have the pleasure of teaching 6th grade this year. I joined the Washington Middle School staff last year teaching Spanish. This year I made the switch to 6th grade and I am SO excited!  I will be teaching ELA and Social Studies on the Patton/Varley/Stack team.

Let me take a minute to introduce myself. I grew up on a dairy farm in a small town in Washington state. I attended Washington State University (GO COUGS!) for my B.A. in Sociology and then returned to complete my Masters in Teaching. I started my teaching career in Denver, Colorado as an elementary bilingual teacher. I taught elementary grades for 9 years and Middle school for 5 years. This is my fourteenth year teaching. I moved to Missoula last summer and I have loved exploring this beautiful city!

During my free time I love to spend time by the river with my family. We got a canoe this summer and it has been an adventure (and a workout!). My husband and I have two children, a son who is almost 3 years old, and my daughter who will be 5 years old in November. Our dog, Fernie is a 6 year old Pitbull mix who mostly sleeps and snores a lot.

With this being my first year in 6th grade, we will be learning a lot together. I LOVE reading and am excited to share my passion of books with you.  Google Classroom is the tool I use to post the announcements, assignments, and resources. Parents, please have your student show you this page or email me to let me know you would like to have your own access.  It is a great approach to support your student.

The Patton/Varley/Stack weekly newsletter will be emailed to you every week. Please make sure your email is updated on Q Student and Parent Portal.  I will also upload those newsletters to the Google Classroom so you can see all that we are learning!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!
