Biography

  • Hello! I am Mr. Englund the Band Director at C. S. Porter and the Assistant Director of Bands at Hellgate High School. Previously, I was the band director at Sleeping Giant Middle School in Livingston Montana.  I was born and raised in Missoula where I developed my love and passion for public school music education.

I graduated from the University of Oregon in 2015 with a degree in music education. While at Oregon, I studied trumpet with Brian McWhorter and conducting with Dr. Tim Paul and Dr. Rodney Dorsey. I also spent two summers fighting fires out of Neihart, Montana.

After college, I moved back to Missoula and spent a year at the University of Montana. I studied conducting with Dr. James Smart and directed the UM Jazz Workshop Big Band.  I also served as the Assistant Director of Bands at Hellgate High School.

As a trumpeter, I've played with many top-quality groups such as the Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra, University of Oregon Wind Ensemble, University of Oregon Symphony Orchestra, and University of Montana Jazz Band. I have served as the principal trumpet in the University of Oregon Wind Ensemble, University of Montana Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and the Celebration Brass Quintet.

In my free time, I enjoy rafting, kayaking, and skiing!  During the summers I work as a raft guide for Zoo Town Surfers! I am excited to work with every single student who enters the band room because as I have learned band can be like a second family.
