I was born and raised in the Washington DC area. I graduated from the University of Maryland in 1985 with a degree in Industrial Arts Education. I began teaching in 1986 in southern Virginia. In 1989 I accepted a job in Prince Georges County Maryland teaching just outside of the city of Washington DC. In 1998 my wife and I moved to Missoula, Montana. I taught for five years at Sentinel High School and eight years at Hellgate High School. In 2011 I transferred to Big Sky High School. This is my 32nd year teaching. I have taught many different subjects in the area of Industrial Technology. Presently, I teach Introduction to Technical Design (Drafting 1), Architectural Design, Applied Technology 1, Advanced Problems in Engineering, Digital Fabrication, and Robotics Engineering. In 2002, I received my masters degree from the University of Montana in Educational Leadership.I have a wonderful wife, Jen, and two boys, Cyrus and Devin, age 14 and 19. In my free time I enjoy hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, camping, fishing, and basically anything outdoors. I also love to travel and try to explore some new place every year with my family.
Welcome back students! I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer break. I was fortunate to have a fantastic summer doing all sorts of fun stuff. Some of the fun stuff included running in my first marathon, staying in a forest service lookoout, mountain biking in Oregon, hiking some of Montana's fantastic places, and a river trip down the Smith River.
I look forward to meeting everyone and hearing about your summer experiences, hopes and dreams. My classes are very project-based and student centered. I like to get my students involved in doing projects and activities designed to stimulate learning. Most students really enjoy my classes. I eagerly anticipate meeting all my students and getting to know them in the next few weeks!!
