The development of the MCPS 21st Century Model officially began in August 2010. The year-long process included Phase I (organizing, data collection and analysis) and Phase II (vision formation, model creation and plan development). The Model of Change (or final report) document was released on Aug. 22, 2011.
The MCPS 21st Century Initiative was supported by Public Consulting Group (PCG), a company employed by the District to facilitate the development of the 21st Century Model of Change. The District used donated funds to support the initiative. A steering committee of community representatives guided the project.
MCPS, through the Model of Change, is positioning its schools and educational community (at large) to be among the best in the nation. The new model is transforming schools and classrooms to provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in a world that is continually influenced by diverse cultures, lifestyles, religions, technologies and economies. It is changing the ways in which teaching and learning are structured in Missoula County Public Schools, so that they more accurately reflect the globalization and technological advances of the 21st century, as well as ensure the engagement and success of all students.
